LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - When you toss your garbage or recycle that water bottle, many of us wonder: will this just end up in the landfill anyway? If it's processed by Athens Services, most of the time, the answer is "no." From curbside to the conveyor belt, the trash Athens trucks picks up throughout more than twenty L.A. county cities is meticulously sorted at this facility in Sun Valley. Whether it's plastics or cardboard, or anything in between, Athens' plant does what many can't. It's able to sift through and separate waste from recyclables thanks to some high tech equipment. It can decipher what's going to the landfill, and only about 30% of it will, and what's going green.
