Irwindale Chamber Presents First Annual "First Responders Appreciation Breakfast"
The Irwindale Chamber of Commerce sponsored the First Annual "First Responders Appreciation Breakfast on September 29 at the MillerCoors Brewery. MillerCoors and Picasso's Cafe, Bakery and Catering were the Presenting Sponsors. The business community honored and extended an enthusiastic thank you to the Irwindale Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (Transit Division), Los Angeles County Fire Department Station #48 and American Medical Response Irwindale Division Headquarters. Representatives from all these agencies were treated to breakfast and given gift bags as well as items to take back to their respective stations. Thank you to the following businesses and individuals who helped make our 1st Annual "Honoring Our First Responders" event very special by hosting a 1st Responder or providing items for the gift bags – Iris Espino (City of Irwindale), Spaghetti Eddie's Cucina Italiana, Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Monrovia - Pasadena, Courtyard Marriott Monrovia, ProForma Quality Printing, Earthquake Solutions, Foothill Transit, Mt. ​The event was such a positive and uplifting one that Chamber CEO, Marlene Carney, announced it would be an annual event held each September. "These First Responders go to work every day and make a positive difference in the lives of so many. They risk their lives to make sure that we are safe and that our communities are protected. We wanted to take a moment to thank them and remind them that we appreciate everything they do." said Carney.

The 2016 Young Citizen of the Year Competition was held at the Irwindale Senior Center on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. Irwindale Police Department Captain Ty Henshaw served as the event emcee to a packed room of local residents, family members of the contestants, local elected officials and business representatives.  Five outstanding Irwindale youth competed by presenting an original essay discussing how social networking has impacted the quality of relationships in society.  The contestants also responded to impromptu questions from the judges. Brandon Fraijo, Sergio Torres, Zalene Acosta, Delilah Miranda and Amrie Soria all impressed the judges with their poise, enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, and community involvement.   Marlene Carney, Irwindale Chamber CEO, said “We are so proud of these smart and savvy kids that care about the community and are willing to step out there and do what it takes to make a positive difference in their lives and the lives of others.   This continues to be one of my favorite chamber events and I applaud the participants.”
 
Irwindale Mayor Mark Breceda, Mayor ProTempore Albert F. Ambriz, Councilmember H. Manuel Ortiz and Councilmember Larry Burrola, Planning Commissioner Loretta Corpis were in attendance, along with Irwindale Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Phyllis Ferguson (California Custom Fruits and Flavors), Immediate Past Chair Dawn DeVroom (Arrow Automotive) and board member, Victor Benavides (City of Hope).  Vocalist Loretta Corpis provided an uplifting musical interlude.  California Grill Express catered a lovely dinner.

Irwindale Chamber Environmental Awards Luncheon to Focus on “Response-Recovery-Resiliency – Will Your Company Survive the Next Disaster?” as well as Honor Local Businesses The Irwindale Chamber Environmental Committee invites you to attend the Environmental Award Luncheon and Exhibitor Showcase from 11:30 am to 2 pm on September 8, 2016 at the City of Hope-Cooper Auditorium 1500 E. Duarte Road in Duarte.

Local businesses will be honored for their environmental efforts in the following categories: Environmental Leadership Award Kaiser Permanente; Waste Reduction Award MillerCoors; Energy Preservation Award Metropolitan Water District; Water Sustainability Award Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District; and Disaster Preparedness Award SCE-Federal Credit Union. The Irwindale Chamber of Commerce and the City of Irwindale are pleased to announce Klaudia Gallardo as the Irwindale Young Citizen of the Year for 2015.
 
The 2015 Young Citizen of the Year Competition was held at the Irwindale Senior Center on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Klaudia Gallardo, Caleb Cardenas and Christian Cardenas all impressed the judges with their poise, enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, and community involvement.   Marlene Carney, Irwindale Chamber CEO, said “We are so proud of these cool kids that are smart, gutsy, who care about the community and are willing to step out there and do what it takes to make a positive difference in their lives and the lives of others.   This continues to be one of my favorite chamber events and I applaud the participants.”

The Irwindale Chamber of Commerce Presents the “2015 Environmental Awards and Health & Wellness Showcase on September 10 at City of Hope
 
The Irwindale Chamber Environmental Committee will be presenting the 2015 Environmental Awards and Health & Wellness Showcase on Thursday, September 10 at the City of Hope (Cooper Auditorium).  This dynamic and popular luncheon event will feature speakers who will address the important issue of health and wellness in the workplace and at home.
The Irwindale Chamber Environmental Committee invites businesses to nominate their business for an award in the following categories: Water Sustainability, Energy Preservation, Waste Reduction, Wellness in the Workplace; Environmental Innovation,  and Environmental Leadership,.  The nominee should be a member of the Irwindale Chamber or have a location in the City of Irwindale.  Companies located within the San Gabriel Valley are encouraged to apply as one of the awards will be given regardless of chamber membership.  Nominations are due into the Irwindale Chamber office by August 5, 2015 by 5 pm.  The awards will be presented at the September 10 luncheon and showcase from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the City of Hope’s Cooper Auditorium.

Chamber Honors Business/Community Members And Installs New Chamber Officers and Directors
 
January 27, 2015 (Irwindale, CA) – The Irwindale Chamber of Commerce recently held its 35th Annual Installation and Awards Dinner at the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton (Monrovia) honoring the Citizen of the Year, Ambassador of the Year, Employee of the Year, Business Person of the Year, and Business of the Year.  The elegant gala evening provided a wonderful opportunity for the Irwindale Chamber to honor and celebrate Irwindale’s best.

Citizen of the Year award was presented to Camille Diaz. Camille Diaz has lived in the City of Irwindale for most of her life.  She is the granddaughter of one of the Padres Fundadores of Irwindale, Richard L. Diaz, who was instrumental in the incorporation of Irwindale in 1957, and the daughter of Richard Diaz, the youngest mayor in the San Gabriel Valley in the 1960’s.She worked for a defense contractor, Honeywell, for nine years before being hired by the City of Irwindale in 1986.  During 27 years with the City of Irwindale, Camille held many positions, and retired as Assistant City Manager in 2013. 
In March 1995, Camille was selected by Senator Hilda Solis as a “Woman of Distinction” in the 24th Senatorial District for her pivotal role in shaping the economic, cultural and social fabric in the San Gabriel Valley. In 2010, Camille was honored by both Senator Gloria Romero and Congresswoman Judy Chu as one of the Outstanding Women of the 24th Senate District and 32nd Congressional District, respectively.
With a steadfast commitment to providing students an opportunity to further their education, Camille has served as a member of the Board of the Irwindale Educational Foundation since its inception.  The Foundation offers scholarships to students planning to attend college or trade school.  Camille currently serves as President of the IEF.  Camille is also a member of the Irwindale Lions Club and has served with distinction as Secretary, Treasurer and President.

Ambassador of the Year award was presented to Kristen Pagdilao. Kristin is the hotel Sales Manager at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton (Monrovia – Pasadena). Kristin brings 8 years of experience in the hospitality industry and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel & Restaurant Administration from the University of the Philippines, where she is originally from. She is very much involved in her community and is a proud Business Ambassador of the Irwindale Chamber of Commerce. She resides in San Dimas with her husband Bryan, their son Scott and their adorable Frenchie, Bruno.

Employee of the Year award was presented to Gilbert Ruiz who has worked for MillerCoors, Irwindale Brewery for the past 34 years and was most recently its Purchasing Manager.  He retired from MillerCoors on December 31.  Gilbert is a California native, born in Los Angeles near Whittier Blvd and Soto Ave.  Gilbert's family moved to Pico Rivera where he spent his formative years.  He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from California State University Los Angeles and his Masters Degree from Claremont Graduate University. Gilbert has served as a long time board member and volunteer for the Irwindale Educational Foundation as well as on the board of the Irwindale Chamber of Commerce. He is happily married to Robin, his wife of seventeen years.

Business Person of the Year award was presented to Dawn DeVroom. Dawn DeVroom is the Chief Operating Officer of Arrow Automotive Service.  Dawn has been managing operations and planning business strategies for Arrow for the past 20 years.  She has a BS in Business Management from University of Phoenix.  Dawn is also acting Chief Financial Officer of IDR Environmental Services.  She sits on several other Boards and is an active member of several different organizations.  She has been married for 20 years and has two amazingly active children. 

The Irwindale Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Year award known as the Joe DiShanni Business of the Year Award was presented to SCE Federal Credit Union.   SCE FCU’s nonprofit organization, the Center for Financial Empowerment, provides financial literacy workshops for schools, community organizations, and employer groups. The Center for Financial Empowerment has reached more than 22,000 people with life-skills financial education.SCE FCU employees consistently demonstrate their commitment to improving the community by volunteering for worthwhile causes. Over the last six years, employees have spent more than 7,000 volunteering in their communities. SCE FCU has been recognized by Senator Ed Hernandez and Congresswoman Judy Chu for continuous community involvement. Assemblyman Roger Hernandez named SCE FCU Business of the Year in 2011.
SCE FCU is a Cornerstone member who is very financially supportive and the employees volunteer on a regular basis.  SCE FCU also contributes generously each year to the Irwindale Education Foundation scholarship fund.
 
Joseph DiShanni founded the Irwindale Chamber of Commerce in 1980 and played a key role in the Industrial and Business Development of Irwindale. Mr DiShanni passed away in October 2003 at age 94.  The Business of the Year is chosen based on excellence in business, service to the chamber and community, initiative and creativity.

Irwindale Chamber Presents an “Old Hollywood Black and White Gala” –
Installation Dinner and Awards on January 23

 
January 16, 2014 (Irwindale, CA) – The Irwindale Chamber of Commerce will hold an “Old Hollywood Black and White Gala” celebrating their 35th Annual Installation and Awards Dinner on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Monrovia. 
 
The Presenting Sponsor for the event is Vulcan Materials.  There are opportunities for additional sponsors which will be highlighted at the event.
 
The Chamber will be highlighting their very own celebrities by honoring Gary Clifford of Athens Services for his role as Chair of the Board during 2014 and will be installing Dawn DeVroom of Arrow Automotive as Chair of the Board for 2015 and the new slate of Officers and Directors for the coming year.
 
The Joe DiShanni Business of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Ambassador of the Year, Employee of the Year, and Citizen of the Year awards will be presented at this event.   This event continues to sell out and promises to be a glamorous and elegant event featuring Irwindale’s best.

San Antonio College; Energy Preservation Award City of Hope; Waste Reduction Award San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity; Environmental Innovation Award Rent a Green Box; Environmental Leadership Award 3M Unitek.
